Our trek across the Nullabour was a success, with great weather, and smooth driving. It was certainly less null than I had imagined and even hoped for. Lots of shrubs were around, along endless plains. certainly an amazing place, even if there is not much there. What is there though is an amazing ‘edge of the world’ view as the land falls off into the ocean. We got som great sunset and sunrise pictures at ‘head of bight’. from there we headed to Esperance and Lucky bay where the scenery was amazing and had some very special places. We then continued our trek to Albany, a fantastic location. After that it was into the wonderfull forests of south west WA. Amazing tall trees, great little small towns, rivers and camp spots. We are now basically at Margaret River at this stage and are enjoying the combination of small towns, forests, winery and beach. Happy days!

First up we survived my cousins wedding at Mornington the day after our Tassie tour, and then a day or so later we hit up the ferry from Sorrento to Queenscliff early in the morning for the cheap fare with the caravan!

Our first stop was at Warnambool, where we stayed at the showgrounds; for $15 which was a bit of bullshit, but we had a quiet night and checked out beautiful Warnambool. From there it was onto Portland where we camped for a couple of nights in a beautiful free camp area in the forest at Mt Claypit…Awesome 8k Mt bike trail there to be shredded as well, so we did that, and obviously checked out Portland with walks rides, etc. From there it was up the coast staying at various locations, taking in Port Fairy, Nelson and the coast, kayaking and some mountain biking until now where we re at ‘Murray Bridge’. Which is alot nicer than the last 100ks of coast we have drove along, which is pretty baren. Down south we had some fun in the 4×4 with some beach driving as well as taking on some sandy dune’ type tracks. we got bogged once, but were soon out with a tyre pressure drop and putting the jeep in low 4×4 mode, yeeehah!

If you are a regular user of a home / office inkjet printer and have’nt heard about CISS then keep reading.

What the hell is CISS you ask?
well a straight copy paste from Rihac states: “CISS stands for ‘Continuous Ink Supply System’. A CISS is used instead of standard inkjet cartridges. Simply explained the CISS is a self contained unit with its own cartridges fed by tubing from a large ink reservoir which sits beside your printer. The system acts like a giant cartridge by feeding ink to the printer when required and can save up to 95% over the cost of using cartridges.”

So there you have it straight up saving money big time on the cost of ink.
A cartridge for my canon ip4850 costs $23.95 from officeworks. and holds about 10ml at best. each of my Rihac resiviour holds 100ml, and 100ml of the ink is $13, cheaper if bought in 1L bottles or with a combo of colours.

So now I have an external resiviour to my printer with some neat tubing coming into my printer to the cradle. My setup cost me about $150 to setup, so the same as a set of inks. But I will win hands down in no time. Quality of the photos that came out in my test were excellent, with rich colour just like canon ink.

I bought my kit from rihac however there are loads of options on ebay and the web.

Installation was simple and straight forward, but does require some ass’ing around transferring chips from original cartridges to new. But does make you feel a little bit cool while your making the modification. You can almsot feel the canon suits squirming in their office chairs as their precious ink profits waiver.

The only problem I had with getting mine to work was that I didnt have the lid sensor tricked into thinking the cover was closed, and because I had an empty cartridge before I did the mod, I thought something was crook with my chip transfer. However after a call to rihac, I ensured my lid sensor was closed right down and hey presto, away we go. The instructions provided are tip top and did mention the lid close tip, but I overlooked it as being fine in my setup.

Anyway, there you have it, if you are sick of wasting money on ink, and want to call bullshit on the whole ink mony making industry. Get yourself a CISS system, or at least explore the refill options. But CISS just makes sense in my mind. Once its setup, the jobs done. Continuous.
